When an executive of the Italian restaurant chain Buca Di Beppo fired Joe Busone, the longtime manager of the Chandler location, he might as well have fired much of the rest of the staff.
In an act of loyalty, seven servers and the hostess walked off the job late last month at the height of the dinner hour, forcing the restaurant to close for the night.
The dismissal might have chased away for good some loyal customers as well.
Busone, 53, had been the manager at Buca Di Beppo at Ray and Priest roads for eight years, and he had built a reputation as someone generous to community groups and loved by his staff.
It was those same employees that continued to push Busone to get “Fired Up” create his own destiny just months after being fired and opening up his own restaurant in the same parking lot as the one he was fired from, appropriately named “Fired Up Grill.” The staff even offered to work for nothing until the restaurant was up and running.
In the four years since it’s spring 2009 opening, Fired Up Grill has made quite the impression on Chandler’s local dining scene for it’s innovative and creative cuisine, relaxing atmosphere, diverse crowd and local hospitality.
The New-American style restaurant offers a slew of creative dishes, in addition to their seasonal menu. The creative, well-educated culinary crew whips up diverse specials and can often put together anything customers might be craving. Fired Up offers happy hour every day from 3:00 to 6:00pm and entertainment every weekend including a Jazz Jam offered every Sunday evening open to all musicians.
Reservations are suggested, but not required. Fired Up Grill is located just east of Interstate-10 in Ahwatukee in the upscale Shoppes of Casa Paloma 7131 W. Ray Rd. Set 45, Chandler, AZ 85226. For more information please visit www.firedupgrill.com.
